The curtain, on December 31, 2019, graciously drew on the banking career of Mohamed Balarabe, on attainment of the mandatory retirement age.

His was an illustrious career spanning over 25 years of service to humanity, country and in particular the corporate world.

In Nigeria’s banking milieu, Balaraba has seen it all – leaving his foot prints in the sands of time.

He not only impacted the banking world positively, he similarly did to the personnel that worked with him, and the testimonies abound.

Balarabe did not stumble on the banking career by happenstance; he prepared and equipped himself for it from the onset.

To get himself ready for the job, Balarabe first took a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom, and capped it with M.Sc. in Finance from the University of Lagos.

Notably, Balarabe is a chartered stockbroker and dealing member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Following career progression, Balarabe also served as General Manager in the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, and had been the General Manager & Chief Executive of Newdevco Finance Services Company Limited.

In Oceanic Bank International Plc, and later Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Balarabe served as an Executive Director prior to joining Fidelity Bank Plc.

He was appointed to the Board of Fidelity Bank on April 1, 2012, and as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) on May 2, 2016.

Before bowing out, Balarabe was the Deputy Managing Director, and also in charge of Commercial and Consumer Banking (North), with responsibilities covering the management of Fidelity Bank’s locations in Northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

While in service, Balarabe further honed his skills in financial service delivery by attending several Executive Education programmes at Columbia University Business School, INSEAD; Said Business School, University of Oxford; Kellogg School of Management, amongst others.

Being a veteran of financial services delivery, not a few will be surprised if Balarabe is called upon any time for a major national assignment.
