Governors Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State have intensified efforts to address insecurity along their shared border, holding a high-level peace meeting in Wukari aimed at finding lasting solutions to the crisis affecting parts of southern Taraba.
The strategic meeting brought together senior government officials and critical stakeholders from both states, reflecting a renewed commitment to inter-state collaboration and coordinated security interventions.
As part of the visit, Governor Alia paid a courtesy call on the Aku Uka and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali, where he outlined the objective of the joint delegation.
He said the Benue State Government was seeking strengthened partnership with Taraba authorities and traditional institutions to bring the protracted crisis to an end.
Governor Alia emphasized that sustainable peace requires collective responsibility, dialogue and mutual trust between neighbouring states.
He underscored the indispensable role of traditional rulers in conflict resolution and community-based peacebuilding, noting that their support remains critical to stabilisation efforts.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in affected communities.
He described the engagement as a clear demonstration of the shared resolve of both governments to confront insecurity decisively and promote harmonious coexistence among their people.
The governors also visited Abako and Chanchanji communities, where they interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) impacted by the violence.
They assured the displaced residents of strengthened security presence, continued humanitarian assistance and sustained government support to ensure their safe and dignified return to their ancestral homes.
The Wukari engagement forms part of broader measures by the Taraba and Benue state governments to deepen cooperation, rebuild trust among communities and secure lasting peace across the region.
