In a bold declaration of support for Dr. Faisal Shuaib’s potential governorship bid, Alhaji Ahmed Yakubu, a prominent resident of Lafia and staunch advocate for the former Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has pledged to deliver no fewer than 2 million votes from Nasarawa State and beyond in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking exclusively to The Eyewitness Newspaper in an interview at his Lafia residence, Yakubu, who described himself as a grassroots mobilizer and community leader, outlined an ambitious strategy to rally indigenous Nasarawa citizens scattered across Nigeria to return home and cast their ballots for Shuaib. “We are targeting at least 200,000 of our brothers and sisters from Nasarawa who are living in other parts of the country,” Yakubu said. “Many of them are in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and even abroad, but their hearts are with the state. We will bring them back to vote for a leader who has proven his mettle in public service.”
Yakubu emphasized the need for strategic voter mobilization, urging all eligible citizens of Nasarawa State to transfer their voter registration points back to their home state. “This is a call to action,” he stated passionately. “If you are from Nasarawa, now is the time to transfer your PVC [Permanent Voter’s Card] to the state. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the process straightforward. Do it today so we can unite our voices and elect Dr. Faisal Shuaib in 2027. He is the change Nasarawa state needs; a man of integrity, vision, and proven track record in health and development.”
The supporter highlighted Shuaib’s achievements, including the successful rollout of vaccines to millions during the pandemic and initiatives to improve maternal and child health in rural areas. “Dr. Shuaib has touched lives across Nigeria, especially in the North Central region,” Yakubu added. “He understands our challenges – from insecurity to economic hardship – and has the expertise to address them. With 2 million votes we will set a new benchmark and make history.”
Yakubu revealed that his group, “Shuaib for Nasarawa Movement,” plans to launch voter education drives, town hall meetings, and digital campaigns to encourage transfers and registrations. He also appealed to diaspora Nasarawa indigenes to participate, noting that INEC’s continuous voter registration exercise provides an opportunity for all to get involved.
Political analysts in Nasarawa have noted the potential impact of such mobilization efforts. “Nasarawa has a significant diaspora population, and if even half of the targeted 200,000 return to vote, it could swing key electoral outcomes,” said Dr. Amina Bello, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University. However, she cautioned that logistical challenges, including transportation and security, could affect the plan.
As the 2027 elections approach, Yakubu’s view underscores the rising tide of support for non-traditional candidates like Shuaib.
