As the much anticipated 2027 general elections draw nearer, voters across Nasarawa State are mounting pressure on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to nominate Dr. Faisal Shuaib as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election. Electorates argue that Shuaib’s widespread popularity could render traditional campaigning obsolete, positioning the party for a landslide victory based on his established reputation alone.
Dr. Shuaib, a renowned public health expert, has emerged as a unifying figure in the state’s political discourse. Supporters highlight his track record: “Dr. Shuaib isn’t just a candidate; he’s the people’s choice,” said Haliru Ibrahim, a vocal advocate from Lafia, in a public declaration of support shared widely on social media. Ibrahim’s statement echoes sentiments from various community groups, who describe Shuaib as “by far the most trusted, reliable, competent, and compassionate” option amid a field of potential contenders.
The push for Shuaib comes as Nasarawa’s political landscape heats up ahead of the post-Abdullahi Sule era. Current Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule’s tenure ends in 2027, prompting early jockeying within the APC. Analysts note that zoning considerations, traditionally favoring rotation among the state’s senatorial districts, could play a role, but Shuaib’s appeal transcends ethnic and regional lines. He has been dubbed as “Nasarawa’s unifying hope,” citing his ability to bridge divides in a state often marked by political fragmentation.
“With Dr. Shuaib, the APC wouldn’t need to campaign, we’ve already locked in,” remarked Awal Rabiu, a Keffi-based activist, in an opinion piece advocating for his candidacy.
Shuaib’s supporters remain optimistic, viewing him as a fresh alternative to conventional politicians.
As the 2027 race unfolds, the APC faces a pivotal decision: heed the electorate’s call for a trusted health leader or risk alienating a mobilized voter base. For now, Dr. Shuaib’s name dominates conversations, signaling a potential shift toward merit-based politics in Nasarawa State.
