The Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management has unveiled a comprehensive five-year strategic plan, aimed at strengthening peacebuilding structures and enhancing conflict prevention across the state.
The Chairman of the Bureau, Bishop Innocent Solomon, presented the document to Governor Agbu Kefas on Thursday at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
Bishop Solomon said the strategic plan outlines proactive and sustainable measures designed to address the root causes of conflicts and promote lasting stability.
He noted that the framework is built on a clearly articulated vision and mission, with defined objectives and implementation strategies to guide the Bureau’s operations over the next five years.
He explained that the document was the product of wide-ranging consultations with key stakeholders across Taraba State, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence.
Highlighting the Bureau’s progress within one year of its establishment, the chairman cited several achievements, including the organisation of peacebuilding workshops, a study tour to Plateau State to understudy best practices in conflict management, the training of dialogue facilitators, and capacity-building programmes for journalists on responsible and peace-oriented reporting.
To enhance the Bureau’s operational efficiency, Bishop Solomon appealed to the governor for the provision of a Hilux vehicle and a bus to improve mobility in carrying out peace interventions across the state.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas praised the Bureau for its initiative and proactive engagement in promoting peace. He assured that the requests submitted would be considered favourably to enable the agency deliver effectively on its mandate.
The governor reiterated his administration’s uncompromising stance on security, emphasizing that criminality and acts capable of disrupting public order would not be tolerated.
He warned that individuals found instigating violence or unrest would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Governor Kefas also disclosed plans to establish a Taraba State Peace, Security and Crisis Accountability Committee to review crisis situations and ensure transparency and accountability in addressing security challenges.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to consolidating peace and maintaining law and order across Taraba State.
