In a breathtaking show of unity and political affirmation, thousands of Muslims in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, turned the city into a shimmering canvas of white on Wednesday as they donned immaculate white garments in solidarity with All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Aliyu Wadada.
What began as a quiet expression of support quickly became a city-wide spectacle. From the early hours, residents, particularly young men and women, flooded the iconic Lafia flyovers and major streets, their flowing white kaftans, jalabiyas, hijabs, and abayas creating a dazzling sea of purity that stretched as far as the eye could see. The flyovers, usually bustling with traffic and commerce, transformed into open-air photography studios as excited youths posed against the white backdrop, capturing memories that instantly went viral on social media.
Partakers who spoke to The EYEWITNESS described the scene as electric. “This is more than fashion. This is a message,” said 24-year-old Aisha Mohammed, who joined friends at the Lafia Central Flyover. “We are telling Senator Wadada and the entire state that we in Lafia stand firmly behind him. White symbolises peace, purity, and unity. Today, we are one.”
The coordinated dress code was not merely aesthetic; it carried a powerful political undertone. With the 2027 governorship election looming, the massive turnout signalled a formidable grassroots mobilisation within the Lafia community, which forms a significant voting bloc in the state. Many participants openly declared their readiness to rally support for Wadada, a senator known for his grassroots connections and developmental strides during his time representing Nasarawa West.
Political analysts see the event as a masterstroke. “When thousands of young people voluntarily turn out in such a symbolic manner, it sends a clear signal to other contenders,” noted Dr. Ibrahim Bala, a political analyst based in Lafia. “This is visual politics at its finest—peaceful, photogenic, and deeply emotional.”
Governor Abdullahi Sule and other top government officials where not left out.
