The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Friday signed into law the State 2026 Appropriation Bill, totaling ₦758,700,527,537.89 into law.
Ahmed, while speaking shortly after assenting to the bill, tagged, “2026 “People’s Budget,” said it was so named because of the inputs generated from the town hall meetings held earlier during the budget preparation process.
According to the governor, the State 2026 budget places less emphasis on recurrent expenditure, which accounts for only 19 percent of the total budget size.
“This is in line with the policy introduced by our leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, during his tenure as Governor of the State, which stipulates that recurrent expenditure should not exceed 30 percent of the total budget,” he stated.
In his commendation for the Sokoto State House of Assembly for their effective scrutiny of the bill and its speedy passage, governor Aliyu warned commissioners to strictly adhere to the funds appropriated to their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
The Governor also praised the cordial relationship existing between the executive and legislative arms of government and called for its sustenance.
He assured the people of Sokoto State of his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering on its campaign promises for the overall development of the State.
Governor Aliyu further commended the people of the State for their continued support and prayers for his administration and urged them to sustain the momentum.
On his part, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritising key sectors of development, including security, agriculture, healthcare, water supply, education, and human capital development, among others.
Bodinga noted that the 2026 Appropriation Bill was thoroughly scrutinised by the lawmakers to ensure that it reflects the needs and aspirations of the electorate.
According to Bodinga, lawmakers will continue to carry out their oversight functions to ensure that the people of the State get the best services as approved by the executive arm of government.
“The House wishes to commend you for the commitment you have demonstrated in the fight against banditry in the State since assuming office,” the Speaker said.
The Speaker onbehalf the entire lawmakers presented letter of commendation award to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on behalf of the Assembly.
