The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) Wednesday matriculated 6,505 students into it’s 17 Faculties and Colleges for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Giving brief background of the institution, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Garba said UDUS is one of the four second generation universities established in 1975 by the federal government of Nigeria.
According to Prof. Bashiru, it’s first convocation on 22nd November, 1980 saw to the graduation of 72 students, adding however that, the institution today graduates students in thousands.
“Currently (2026), the university has a total of 17 Faculties, a College of Health Sciences (CHS), a College of Post graduate Studies, School of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Public Health, fifteen (15) Research Centers/Institute, Central Research Laboratory and quite a number of other academic and non-teaching units.
While maintaining that UDUS is therefore a pride for the founders of the university, and every citizen of this country seeing the height it has attained, the Vice Chancellor said for the 2025/2026 academic session, a total of 306 students were admitted into the faculty of agriculture, 187 for faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies.
“Faculty of Arts admitted 65 students, Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences 1,146, Faculty of Education and Extension Services, 583 while that of Engineering and Environmental Design admitted 396.
“Others include, 398 students admitted in the Faculty of Management Sciences, 80 for Faculty of Law, 509 for Political Science Faculty and 150 Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 777 Faculty of Physical and Computing Sciences, even as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine admitted 120 students. College of Health Sciences which comprises of 5 Faculties and 2 Schools admitted 822 and 1008 were admitted for Postgraduate Studies”. Prof.Bashiru disclosed.
Registering her happiness, one of the newly admitted students, Mariam Abdullahi told our reporter that she is grateful to Almighty Allah and her parents for always believing in her. She also promised not to let her parents down by ensuring that she graduates with a 1st Class result at be end of the studies.
